The Country That Shook – by Sophie Maliphant24 Nov 2015, Posted by News in
On 25th April this year (2015), Nepal suffered the worst natural disaster to hit their country since 1934. The Earthquake (known as Gorkha Earthquake) had a magnitude of 7.8Mw. It killed over 9,000 people and injured more than 23,000. In the aftermath of this disaster, a travelling graphic designer from England and long time friend of Cyberpac and Antistat, Sophie Maliphant, witnessed first hand the devastating effect to so many lives and communities. On leaving Nepal after the earthquake, she felt moved to help to raise money for the long-term rebuild and aid work for Nepal.
After coming up with the idea of a hand-illustrated story book, Sophie began a Kickstarter campaign in order to raise enough money to cover the costs of making and printing hard-back books and other merchandise with the aim that all of the money raised from selling the products would go to Nepal.
On hearing about the project, we of course wanted to get involved and became backers helping to fund this magnificent project. With the help of all the backers the project was able to surpass the £2200 total needed for the initial print run of books and made a further £875 allowing 250 extra copies to be made to sell to directly fund £2,500 of additional earthquake relief.
